Working in Education for over 20 years has given me insight into the importance of knowledge and understanding – knowing your market and understanding the needs of the clients.

A BA (Hons) and MA in Education, including Psychological and Sociological aspects, allows me to consider behaviours, patterns, relationships, and cultures. All of this supports the property situation and my roles for the past 5 years in Portugal.

Coming to Portugal, I had to make changes and I have worked for real estate, property management and a care company, in a variety of roles, all of which gave me valuable insight into not only my own capabilities, but that of others.

Living in the Algarve

Even though I’ve travelled across continents and stayed in many countries, including living in Cyprus for 2 years, I have to say Portugal is the jewel in the crown.

After uprooting from the UK and replanting in Tavira, the East Algarve, it wasn’t long before I was calling this wonderful and welcoming place my home.

There are so many positives to living here, including a healthy lifestyle, a great community ethos, and, of course, the weather.

There’s so much right on my doorstep too. So much to see and do.

I feel fortunate and grateful every day, and count myself lucky to have made so many good friends.

In my spare time, I’m involved in local projects, helping families in need, and beach clean-up, as well as supporting the aging community. I also enjoy regular gym sessions and playing padel.

My youngest son attends the local school and football team, and became fluent in Portuguese within his first year. My older children, and three grandchildren, live in the UK and visit as much as possible.

Working for both a large and a small property company allowed me to find the positives and negatives of my role, as well as giving me the opportunity and insight to build my knowledge and understanding of the market.

I found I preferred to focus on a bespoke model. To support individual clients from idea, to moving into their own home, here in the Algarve. Offering advice on the ideal location, finding properties to suit their specifications, viewing, discussing and then further discussing before deciding on a sale, a rental or an investment.

First and foremost, I’m here to help. From assisting with changing and evolving needs or ideas, to taking extra photos or videos. I can even provide journey times to and from prospective properties, how far are the beaches, shops or transport links, which may factor in your needs.

Nothing is too much trouble. I’m happy to take the stress out of trawling through endless websites, negating the need to view the same properties over again, as many real estate companies have different photographs and information for the same property.

I’m also willing to work with other agencies to find the best fit to meet individual specifications, as well as making sure all paperwork is ready for due diligence by the Lawyers and other agencies. Further taking on the role of Power of Attorney to make transitions and actions as smooth as possible, especially in the current Covid situation.

I believe there’s a cohesion between sales, holiday rentals, and long-term rentals. Having this under one roof, so to speak, can be beneficial to many clients.

Generally, the buyer or seller starts by falling in love with the Algarve, then depending on circumstances they holiday, buy or rent. Enabling the company, Mermaid Sales and Rentals, to build a rapport with individuals, whilst also having a wider understanding of the market.
